Box Score A total of twenty-four hits and twenty-two runs occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Frankfort, Kentucky between Oakland City and Kentucky State University. The Mighty Oaks ended up on top, beating the Thorobreds 14-8.
The offense started early, as
Aron Busick went yard to left field in the first. The third inning was full of offense. Busick started with a bunt single,
Noah Baugher reached on a walk. A single from
Fred Fernandez allowed Busick to score the 2-0.
Oliver Hamilton followed with a deep homerun to left field, driving in three. After the homerun,
Xander Willis walked and
Sam Pinckert followed with another bomb in the inning. after the top of the third, Oakland City was up 7-0.
The Thorobreds plated three runs in the bottom half of the third. Oakland City scored again in the fifth.
Leyton Ivers got on with a hit by pitch, advanced to second on a wild pitch and later scored on a wild pitch as well. Another Oaks run was added in the sixth.
Artem Logvinov got on with a hit by pitch and later scored on an RBI single from
Aron Busick.
Kentucky State added three runs in the bottom of the seventh, making it a 9-6 ballgame. Oakland City answered right away.
Mason Simon walked,
Leyton Ivers followed with a single.
Aron Busick doubled to drive in Simon. On a sacrifice fly from
Noah Baugher two runs were able to score, putting Oakland City up 12-6.
Kentucky State would score two more in the eighth and the Mighty Oaks scored two as well in the top of the ninth. They did so without recording a hit in the inning.
The final score was 14-8 in Frankfort, KY. This puts the Mighty Oaks at 24-8 in the year. Twelve arms toed the rubber for coach Andy Lasher. They combined for thirteen strikeouts and six walks.
Hunter Callahan earned the win; he pitched the fourth inning.
Next up for Oakland City baseball is a JV game on Wednesday at home versus Olney Central College. On the weekend, the team will travel to Kokomo, Indiana for the River States Conference against Indiana University Kokomo.
