Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 In the fifth River States Conference series of the season, the Oakland City baseball squad was able to win three games in Midway, Kentucky. The Oaks improved their RSC record to 11-4 with the sweep over the Midway Eagles.

Game 1
On Friday afternoon the Mighty Oaks played a doubleheader versus the Midway Eagles. In the first inning, Oakland City faced an early 0-2 deficit. Some trouble with command on the mound caused these runs to score. The Mighty Oaks answered in the fourth inning. Fred Fernandez led off the inning with a homerun. Oliver Hamilton and Xander Willis followed with back-to-back singles. Blake Herrmann, who was the courtesy runner for Hamilton, was able to score on an RBI groundout from Artem Logvinov to tie up the game.

An inning later, the Oaks continued their offense. Leyton Ivers started the inning with a single, Aron Busick walked. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, this allowed them to score on a single from Fred Fernandez. Fernandez ended up reaching third after an errant throw, he later scored on a throwing error from the Midway catcher.

Midway was able to come back in the game by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh. With two runners on in the eighth, Leyton Ivers added some insurance runs with a 3-run homerun to left field. This put the score at 8-4, which ended up being the final score in game one.

Thomas King started on the bump for the Mighty Oaks. He earned the win by hurling five innings in which he gave up two hits and two runs (unearned). He walked four and struck out eleven. Mick Uebelhor (1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO), Evan Price (0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 S0) and Owen Spears (S, 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO).

Game 2
A great pitching performance by Benjamen Simmons led to another Mighty Oaks win on Friday. He pitched seven shutout innings in which he surrendered five hits and three walks while fanning seven.

The Mighty Oaks scored their first runs in the second inning. Fred Fernandez led off with his second homerun of the day. Xander Willis scored the second run, after he reached base on an error. He stole second base and was driven in on a single by Artem Logvinov. The 3-0 scored in the fourth on a wild pitch. Singles from Fred Fernandez and Xander Willis and a couple of walks resulted in a two-run inning. RBIs came from Willis and JT Smallwood.

A triple from Artem Logvinov and dropped fly ball for JT Smallwood resulted in the sixth Oakland City run. The final score was 6-0.

Game 3
Just like in game one, the Eagles took a 0-2 lead in the first inning on Saturday. It took until the sixth inning for the Mighty Oaks to get on the scoreboard, but they did so in a big way. With two outs in the inning, Leyton Ivers singled and Aron Busick drew a walk. Both runners were able to score on a 2-RBI double from Noah Baugher. Five walks followed, resulting in a five-run inning.

Two more runs were added in the eighth inning. Fred Fernandez led off with a single, Alec Pruitt got on after getting hit by a pitch. A walk for Artem Logvinov loaded up the bases. A fielder's choice for JT Smallwood and a wild pitch resulted in the score changing to 7-2. Midway scratched one run across in the bottom half of the inning via a homerun, but the Oaks got one back in the ninth, making it 8-3. Midway would score twice in the ninth, but Mighty Oaks were able to secure an 8-5 victory and with that the sweep.

Gehrig Tenhumberg pitched eight quality innings. He allowed three hits and three runs (earned) while walking one and striking out six. Tommy Johnson came in to pitch the ninth, he surrendered two hits and two runs (earned), as he walked one and struck out two.

On Monday, the Mighty Oaks JV squad will play a doubleheader versus Olney Central College at home. A day later, Bethel University (TN) will travel to Oakland City for a varsity game. The next River States Conference series will be at home, as the Oaks are hosting Indiana University Southeast on Friday and Saturday.
