Oaks Win Big in First Game NCCAA World Series

Box Score To open the NCCAA World Series, the one seed Mighty Oaks faced off against Trinity Christian, who beat Kansas Christian College earlier in the day. The Oaks came out swinging and were able to win in mercy rule fashion.

Oakland City started the game with a four spot in the bottom of the first. Leyton Ivers got on due to an error, Aron Busick followed with a basehit and Noah Baugher loaded the bases when he reached on a fielder's choice. A walk for Fred Fernandez followed to score the first run of the evening. Oliver Hamilton followed Fernandez with another RBI, on a fielder's choice Busick was able to score. Xander Willis walked to load the bases back up, giving Alec Pruitt the opportunity to drive in Baugher with a single through the right side. The offense stayed hot, as a sacrifice fly from JT Smallwood drove in the 4-0.

After two innings without much offense, the Oaks added three more in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Leyton Ivers drew a walk. Aron Busick allowed him to cross homeplate on a triple down the right field line. Noah Baugher followed with a single, which scored Busick. Not much later, Baugher advanced to second on a wild pitch, which gave Fred Fernandez the opportunity to drive him in with a single.

An inning later, Aron Busick drew a walk with the bases loaded, making it 8-0. Noah Baugher came in clutch with a deep fly to left centerfield to drive in four runs. Baugher's grand slam put the Mighty Oaks up 12-0.

The Trolls of Trinity Christian answered with four runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Oakland City still had a steady lead. The lead got bigger in the bottom of the seventh. Leyton Ivers led-off the inning with a single through the left side. On a triple from Aron Busick – his second of the day – Ivers scored. Noah Baugher followed with a single, which brought home Busick, who represented the fourteenth run. With that, the Oaks won in mercy rule fashion, the final score was 14-4.

Three pitchers toed the rubber for the Mighty Oaks. Gehrig Tenhumberg started the game with five shutout innings. He allowed three hits and five walks, while he struck out six. Owen Spears came in out of the bullpen, he surrendered four earned runs on four hits, as he walked three and struck out one. Mick Uebelhor pitched the seventh, he struck out one without giving up a hit or walk.

With the victory for Oakland City, they are slated to face of against Mission University (formerly known as Baptist Bible College). This game will take place on Monday, May 20th at 2:30 PM.
