Box Score After a devastating loss versus IU Kokomo on Thursday, the Oaks answered with a big win over Ohio Christian University in game two of the tournament this afternoon. Oakland City collected eighteen hits and plated seventeen runs.
The Trailblazers of Ohio Christian started off by scoring a run in the top of the first, taking an early 0-1 lead. Oakland City answered right away.
Leyton Ivers walked and
Aron Busick followed with a single to put runners on the corners. A groundout from
Noah Baugher resulted in the 1-1, as it allowed Ivers to score. A single from
Fred Fernandez, a double from
Oliver Hamilton and a
Xander Willis homerun all followed. Later in the inning,
Leyton Ivers singled to left field, which allowed
Sam Pinckert (single) and
Marcos Arocho (hit by pitch) to score. After the first, the Oaks were up 6-1.
An inning later, after a
Noah Baugher walk,
Fred Fernandez deposited a ball over the fence for a two-run shot.
Oliver Hamilton followed with a double,
Xander Willis singled and on an errant throw while trying to pick-off to first base, both runners were able to score. This made it a 10-1 ballgame after two innings.
To lead-off the third inning,
Leyton Ivers went deep. Walks for
Noah Baugher and
Oliver Hamilton followed. A single from
Xander Willis allowed Baugher to score run number thirteen of the afternoon. An inning later,
Sam Pinckert and
Marcos Arocho collected back-to-back singles. A double from
Aron Busick followed, after this
Noah Baugher tripled to left centerfield to collect 2 RBIs.
An Ohio Christian homerun in the top of the fifth made it a 14-2 game. The Trailblazers homered again in the seventh inning, to come back to 14-5. Oakland City answered with a walk for
Aron Busick, an RBI double for
Noah Baugher and a sacrifice fly from
Chase Christie. After this,
Oliver Hamilton got hit by a pitch,
Mason Simon singled and
Alec Pruitt reached base due to a fielding error, this allowed the seventeenth run to cross Homeplate for the Oaks. This would be the final run scored during the game.
Gehrig Tenhumberg earned his eighth win of the year, as he hurled seven innings. The tall right-hander allowed ten hits and five runs (4 ER), while walking one and striking out nine.
Weston Allen came in to pitch the last two innings. He allowed just one hit while fanning two.
This win over Ohio Christian, was win number 39 on the year for coach Andy Lasher and his squad. The victory also means that the Mighty Oaks advance to Saturday in the River States Conference tournament. At 12:30 PM ET, Oakland City will face off against the loser of tonight's game between Point Park University and Indiana University Kokomo in an elimination game.
