Box Score Indianapolis, IN – On Tuesday afternoon, the Mighty Oaks played the Marian University Knights for the fifth time this year. After winning the first four games, the fifth game did not go in Oakland City's favor.
Marian took an early lead after a two-run homerun was hit in the second inning. Oakland City crawled back in the game, scoring runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning. Singles from
Moises Rosario and
Xander Willis, followed by a sacrifice bunt allowed
Keifer Wilson to bring in the first run with an RBI groundout. An inning later,
Will Gibbs drew a lead-off walk. Gibbs later scored on a single from
Moises Rosario, making it a 2-2 ballgame. In the top of the sixth, the Mighty Oaks took a lead after three walks and a wild pitch allowed the third OCU run to score.
Marian came with an answer on three hits and some sloppy defense. This resulted in a 3-5 lead for the home team. The Knights would end up scoring one more in the bottom of the seventh, making the final score 3-6.
The Mighty Oaks used five arms on the mound.
Dicky Gonzalez threw the first four innings, he allowed three hits and two runs (both earned), while walking one and striking out six.
Luis Pezzotti came in and did not allow a hit or a run, he walked one and punched out two.
Cole Lambird pitched the sixth, he gave up three hits and three runs (all unearned), he walked none and struck out two.
Landen Ray faced two batters, both drew walks,
Weston Allen relieved him of his duties and finished the game giving up just one hit and no runs. He struck out one.
This weekend, River States Conference play begins for the Mighty Oaks. They will open their conference season up at home versus the Brescia University Bearcats. The first game is set for Friday at 3 PM, a doubleheader will follow on Saturday, starting at noon.
Before that, Vincennes University will come to town on Thursday to face off against the developmental squad at 3 PM.
