Oakland City, IN – To continue the River States Conference season, the Mighty Oaks hosted the Eagles of Midway University on Saturday and Sunday. After a big win in game one, it took two hard fought battles to complete the series win and sweep.
Game 1
The Mighty Oaks saw a great start of the game when
Mick Uebelhor punched three tickets to set the tone in the top of the first. With two outs in the bottom half, Oakland City put up a six spot.
Moises Rosario got hit by a pitch,
Josh Russell and
Fred Fernandez both singled and
Hudson Allen made it 4-0 with a homerun.
Keifer Wilson reached base on a hit by pitch,
Dicky Gonzalez followed with a triple. Gonzalez scored soon after that when
Kendric Sorgius drove him in with a single. The Oaks added three more in the bottom of the third. A single from
Fred Fernandez and a double from
Keifer Wilson put runners on second and third base.
Dicky Gonzalez singled to make it 7-0.
Kendric Sorgius reached first on an error and allowed courtesy runner
Will Gibbs to score. Sorgius later scored on a single from
Marcos Arocho to make it 9-0. Midway scored three runs in the top of the fourth with a 3-run homerun. In the seventh inning it became a 9-4 ballgame when a wild pitch resulted in another Eagles run. The Oaks answered with a run of their own.
Fred Fernandez led-off the inning with a double, he reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly from
Hudson Allen. The Eagles scored one more to make the final score 10-5.
Mick Uebelhor started the game for Oakland City and earned the win. He hurled six innings, allowed two hits and three runs (all earned), he walked three and struck out thirteen.
Owen Spears finished the game for the Oaks. In three innings he allowed six hits and two runs (both earned), he walked none and struck out four.
After the game the seniors were recognized for the Mighty Oaks.

Game 2
The Oaks took another early lead in game two on Saturday. Singles from
Marcos Arocho and
Moises Rosario put runners on the corners. A groundout from
Josh Russell allowed Arocho to make it a 1-0 ballgame in the first.
Fred Fernandez homered in the bottom of the third to make it 3-0. The three-run lead vanished in the top of the fifth. An error and four hits resulted in three runs for the Eagles, tying the game up. The score remained tied until the bottom of the seventh.
Dicky Gonzalez drew a walk start this inning.
Kendric Sorgius bunted him over to second base. With two outs,
Moises Rosario popped up to shallow left-centerfield. An error by the left fielder allowed Gonzalez to score and help the Mighty Oaks win in walk-off fashion. The final score was 4-3.
Benjamen Simmons was the starting pitcher for Oakland City. In 4.1 innings he allowed six hits and three runs (two earned). He walked none and struck out zero.
Chase Rubenacker came in out of the bullpen and earned the win. He hurled 2.2 innings, gave up two hits and no runs. He walked one and struck out three.
Game 3
The game started with two goose eggs on the scoreboard, in the top of the second inning starting pitcher
Gehrig Tenhumberg struck out his third batter of the game and with that his 300
th strikeout as a Mighty Oak. A special moment for the senior right-hander who holds the record for most strikeouts in school history. In the bottom of the second the Mighty Oaks took a 1-0 lead. Singles from
Fred Fernandez,
Keifer Wilson and
Kendric Sorgius resulted in a run. The Eagles answered right away with a solo homerun to tie the game up. In the top of the fourth, Midway took the lead. Oakland City answered right away.

Dicky Gonzalez followed with a bunt. A single from
Marcos Arocho resulted in the tying run to score.
Xander Willis also singled to drive in another run. Arocho would later score the 4-2 on a sacrifice fly from
Moises Rosario. In the top of the sixth, the Eagles went yard again, making it 4-3.
Marcos Arocho answered with a homerun to give Oakland City a two-run cushion. Midway homered once again in the top of the seventh to make it 5-4. This ended up being the final score between Oakland City and Midway.
Gehrig Tenhumberg was the starting pitcher for the Mighty Oaks. He pitched five innings, allowed six hits and three runs (two earned). He walked none and struck out four. His relievers were
Landen Ray (2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO),
Weston Allen (1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO) and
Dicky Gonzalez (S, 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 SO).
Next weekend will be a big one for the Oakland City baseball team as they face of against Indiana University Southeast. Both the Mighty Oaks and the Grenadiers have a 15-2 River States Conference record and are fighting for who ends up on top at the end of the regular season.
