Box Score Columbia, KY – To earn their thirtieth win of the season, the Mighty Oaks baseball squad went to Columbia, Kentucky where they faced off against the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College. The Oaks collected thirteen hits and scored fifteen runs.
Lindsey Wilson took an early 0-1 lead with a solo homerun in the first inning. The Mighty Oaks answered right away with a four spot in the top of the second.
Josh Russell reached base on an error and
Fred Fernandez followed with an RBI double. After a single from
Hudson Allen,
Leyton Ivers made the score 4-1 with a 3-run homerun to left field. In the third inning, Lindsey Wilson scored another run, but once again Oakland City came with an answer. Both
Marcos Arocho and
Moises Rosario reached base on errors,
Josh Russell and
Fred Fernandez both collected RBI singles and made it a 7-2 ballgame. Two hits and two runs in the bottom of the fourth brought the Blue Raiders back in the game, as the score was now 7-4.
Xander Willis collected a 2-RBI single in the top of the fifth, allowing
Leyton Ivers (walk) and
Kendric Sorgius (single) to score.
Moises Rosario followed with a single and a load of free bases followed.

Fred Fernandez,
Hudson Allen and
Dicky Gonzalez all reached base thank to either a walk or a hit by pitch. After five innings, the score was 12-4. In the top of the sixth,
Xander Willis went yard to deep left field to make it 13-4. A
Kendric Sorgius single in the top of the seventh made it 15-4. The Blue Raiders would score one more but could not avoid the run rule to be in effect. The final score in Kentucky was 15-5.
Three pitchers toed the rubber for the Mighty Oaks. Starting pitcher
Clark Gries earned the win in four innings. He allowed four hits and four runs (three earned), while walking two and striking out two.
Luis Pezzotti (2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO) and
Ian Hall (1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO) came in out of the bullpen.
River States Conference play continues tomorrow in New Albany, IN. At 5 PM EST (4 PM CST) Oakland City will face off against the Grenadiers of Indiana University Southeast. Both teams are tied for first in the conference with a 15-2 record. A doubleheader will follow on Friday, this will start at 2 PM EST (1 PM CST).
