Box Score 3 Columbus, IN – Things went well for the Mighty Oaks on Thursday, during the doubleheader at Indiana University Columbus. Two victories were secured, one in mercy rule fashion, the other in a weather shortened close ballgame. During the third game on Saturday, Oakland City struggled offensively and lost the last regular season game of the year.
Game 1
The Oaks came out swinging in the first game versus the Crimson Prida, in seven innings, they collected 21 hits and eighteen runs. A lead-off triple from
Leyton Ivers started the offense, he scored on a sacrifice fly from
Xander Willis. After two walks,
Hudson Allen and
Keifer Wilson both singled to drive in two more. With runners on first and third, Allen and Gibbs (courtesy runner for Wilson) both successfully stole, making it 4-0. Singles from
Leyton Ivers,
Xander Willis and
Moises Rosario made it 5-0 in the top of the second. Four more runs were added in the top of the fourth. After two quick outs,
Leyton Ivers,
Xander Willis (2B),
Moises Rosario,
Josh Russell (2B) and
Fred Fernandez all collected basehits. IU Columbus plated one run in the bottom of the fourth, this would be the only run they scored in this game.
Keifer Wilson started the fifth inning with a homerun to the opposite field,
Kendric Sorgius who reached base with a single scored later in the inning after a sacrifice fly from
Xander Willis. Five runs were added to the score in the top of the sixth inning.
Keifer Wilson emptied the bases with a 3-RBI double,
Kendric Sorgius followed with a 2-run shot to right field. A triple from
Hudson Allen and a hit by pitch for
Keifer Wilson put runners on the corners to start the seventh inning. Allen scored on a wild pitch, a single from
Leyton Ivers drove in Gibbs (courtesy runner) to make it 18-1, this would be the final score in game one of the doubleheader.
Game 2
The Mighty Oaks started off hot again.
Leyton Ivers started with a single, a double from
Xander Willis followed. Ivers and Willis both scored on sacrifice flies from
Moises Rosario and
Josh Russell, making it a 2-0 ballgame. A triple from
Hudson Allen started the top of the second inning, he scored on a groundout from
Kendric Sorgius. The Crimson Pride would scratch one run across in the bottom of the third to make it 3-1. The Mighty Oaks answered right away with back-to-back singles from
Fred Fernandez and
Hudson Allen.
Kendric Sorgius followed with an RBI double to make it 4-1. IU Columbus added one more run in the bottom of the fifth, making it a 4-2 ballgame. In the top of the sixth, while the Mighty Oaks started an offensive outburst, lightning was spotted and the game was stopped. The final score after five innings was 4-2.
Game 3
Oakland City secured an early 1-0 lead after a
Leyton Ivers, a passed ball and a dropped fly ball off the bat of
Moises Rosario. The Crimson Pride answered in the bottom half of the inning by tying the score.

Will Gibbs, who ran for catcher
Keifer Wilson, in the top of the second with a single, making it a 2-1 ballgame. In the bottom of the fourth, IU Columbus scored and tied the score again. The home team took the lead in the bottom of the sixth, moving the score to 2-3. With two runners on, a bunt from
Kendric Sorgius got thrown into left field, allowing Sorgius to reach second and two runners to score. Oakland City was back on top, 4-3. The Crimson Pride took the lead in the eighth by scoring two runs. The Mighty could not tie the game in the top of the ninth, making 4-5 the final score.
The River States Conference Tournament starts on Thursday, where the No. 1 seed Mighty Oaks will face off against the winner of the game between the four and five seed. The tournament is hosted at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio and follows the double elimination format.
