The Oakland City University men's golf team kicked off their 2018-19 season at the Blue Raider Fall Kickoff tournament, held at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson, in Columbia, Kentucky, September 3-4.
After an opening round 306, the Oaks were in seventh place in the seven team field, two shots behind Huntington University, and six shots back of West Virginia Tech. A day two score of 299 was an improvement, but not enough to overcome their deficit, as OCU finished in seventh place with a two-day total of 605. West Virginia Tech placed sixth, shooting 597 (300, 297), with Huntington University taking fifth place at 596 (304, 292). Marian University finished in fourth position, at 572 (291, 281), while Midway University took third place at 566 (284, 282). Second place went to Campbellsville University, with their 551 total (278, 273), while Lindsey Wilson College won the tournament with a 548 total (276, 272).

Nick Virden paced the Oaks on day one, with a 75, followed closely by senior
Luke Taylor (76), sophomore
Trevor Duvall (77) and senior
Steven Lawson (78).
Jordon Barrow finished with a 97 in his collegiate debut. On day two, Lawson posted his career low round of 70 (-1), while Taylor ended the day with a 73. Duvall posted 75, followed by Virden's 81, and Barrow's 85. Lawson placed in a tie for 24th overall, while Taylor finished tied for 29th. Taylor was -4 on the par 5s overall, tied for seventh best in the field, while Duvall was +1 in par 3 scoring, tied for sixth. Lawson ended the tournament with 24 pars, just one back of the tournament best, while Taylor's seven birdies was tied for 15th.
The Mighty Oaks will return to the course at the Vincennes University Invitational, at Country Oaks Golf Course, in Montgomery, Indiana, on Saturday and Sunday, September 8-9.
