Paris, KY - In the National Christian College Athletic Association Mideast Regional Championship, the Mighty Oaks men's golf team looked to continue their unbeaten streak in the fall 2023 campaign. Competing against Asbury University, Cambellsville University-Harrodsburg, Alice Lloyd College, and Kentucky Christian University, the OCU squad was able to hold off a second-day charge from the rest of the field, taking a three-shot victory and earning a berth in the NCCAA National Championship in October.
Kyle Honer, continuing his impressive play to begin his sophomore campaign, again earned medalist honors after rounds of 69 and 75 on the par 72 course at Houston Oaks Golf Club.
Jack Dolan, who took medalist honors in OCU's first tournament of the season at the Vincennes University Fall Kickoff, finished second individually, carding rounds of 75 and 78.
Trevin Hutchinson also had a solid showing, finishing in fourth place as an individual after firing 74 and 80.
Juniors
Austin Kramer (84/84) and
Addison Horner (90/89) also competed for the Oakland City University team, winning with scores of 302 and 317 to take a three-shot victory, and earning the automatic spot in the NCCAA Championship, held at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida, October 23-25.
During Horner's second round, he carded a hole-in-one on the par-three 12th hole. It is the second ace in as many years for the Mighty Oaks men's team, as Dolan holed out from the tee once last season. It was Horner's career first.
The Mighty Oaks will return to action in the River States Conference Preview, held at Glade Springs Golf Club in Daniels, West Virginia, on October 2-3.
