Massive Conference Win For Men’s Soccer Versus Midway

Box Score Midway, KY – After a tough week where the Mighty Oaks fell just short twice in River States Conference play, the momentum was brought back to Oakland City with two big wins. On Wednesday, October 12 the Oaks beat Campbellsville-Harrodsburg with a score of 5-0.  On Saturday, Midway University got beat 6-0. With this win the Mighty Oaks are now 3-3 in conference play.

After the confidence boost that was gained on Wednesday – after beating Campbellsville-Harrodsburg 5-0 – the squad of coach Adam Sell felt good going into the River States Conference match versus the Eagles of Midway University. Especially knowing that Midway has yet to win a game this year.

It didn't take long for the Mighty Oaks to get ahead. In the third minute of the game, Roberto Dominguez scored the 1-0. Oakland City was in command of the ball for the entire duration of the match. They did not give the Midway Eagles a single opportunity to make a shot on goal. In the 32nd minute it was Matt Menegon who scored the 2-0 for the Mighty Oaks. Not much later it was Reijmar Westerbroek who put the 3-0 on the scoreboard. Right before the end of the first half, Martin Burgos scored the 4-0.

Going into the second half with a big lead, it was up to the Mighty Oaks to take care of business, which they did. In the 61st minute Dominguez scored his second goal of the day. Only seven minutes later he was able to find the net again to make the score 6-0. This would be the final score in Midway, which improved Oakland City's overall record to 7-5-3 and their River States Conference record to 3-3.

With three more RSC matches left on the schedule, the Mighty Oaks have an important two weeks coming up. Indiana University East is up next, on October 20 in Richmond, Indiana. After this there will be two more home games. Point Park University is coming to Oakland City on October 27 where they will play at Aigner Field at noon. Two days later Carlow University will make the trip from Pennsylvania to Southern Indiana for the Mighty Oaks' last regular season match.
