Box Score Pittsburgh, PA – In the quarterfinals of the River States Conference Tournament. The No. 5 seed Oakland City took on the No. 4 seed Point Park University. On Monday, November 7 the Mighty Oaks played for a spot in the semifinals of the tournament.
The winner of the match between Oakland City and Point Park, will advance to the semifinals of the River States Conference Tournament where they will take on WVU Tech, who earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Oakland City finished the regular season with an 8-5-5 record. The Pioneers of Point Park ended at 6-8-4. In the most recent conference matchup (October 27), the teams tied at 1-1.
The Mighty Oaks started off hot, creating several chances to score in the first ten minutes of the game. After about thirty minutes, coach
Adam Sell decided to substitute in some fresh players, which paid off quickly.
In the fortieth minute,
Roberto Dominguez was able to find the net first for Oakland City. This was his ninth goal of the season. The Mighty Oaks were able to hold onto the lead till half time.
Point Park seemed to be rejuvenated in the second half. Several offensive chances for the Pioneers did not result in goals, but the pressure was on. Around the hour mark, four more substitutions were made by coach Sell. Once again it didn't take long for the Mighty Oaks to score right after. In the 66
th minute it was
Emiliano Meza - who just got put in the game – to score the 2-0. This was his first goal of the season.
Right after Oakland City took a solid lead, Point Park came right back in the game. Within a minute from the 2-0, Point Park put the 2-1 on the board. After this goal, Point Park was able to fire off two more shots on goal, but goalkeeper
Laurin Aumueller kept the score at 2-1.
With this victory over Point Park University, the Mighty Oaks men's soccer team advances to the semifinal round of the River States Conference Tournament. On Wednesday, November 9, Oakland City will face the No. 1 seed West Virginia University Tech in Montgomery, WV. On the other side of the bracket, No. 6 IU East takes on No. 2 Rio Grande for a spot in the finals. The finals will be on November 12.
