Terre Haute, IN - Competing at the Larry Cole Open, hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, the Oakland City University track & field teams came away with four individuals qualifying in six events for the NCCAA National Indoor Track Meet.
For the women's side, Emily Martig (Fr., Staefen im Breeisgau, Germany) qualified in both the 60m and the long jump, placing 2nd and 3rd respectively. On the men's side, Nico Tornay Sanchez (Sr., Malaga, Spain) also qualified in both the 60m and the long jump, placing 4th in both events. Emerick Randolph (So., Owensboro, Kentucky) qualified in the Mile, while Miguel Redondo (Jr., Salamnca, Spain) qualified in the 400m.
Both the women's and men's teams had a combined 20 personal bests. The men added 16 new marks to OCU's All Time Top 10 List. The women added 13 new marks to the All Time Top 10 List. Notable new school records: Tanisha English (Weight Throw 11.92m), Courtney Helfert (Shot Put 9.18m), Emily Martig (60m 7.95), Kendly Raymond (Shot Put 11.92m), Pierce Lashley (3,000m 9:23.03), Emerick Randolph (mile 4:33.04), and Nico Tornay Sanchez (60m 7.13).
Mighty Oaks Head Coach Kegg, in his third season, stated he was very happy with the teams 'first outing. "For many athletes this was their first ever Indoor track meet. Everyone got out and competed and gave it their all. I was very impressed with the teams 'competitiveness and willingness to work together to achieve their goals. I think everyone is looking forward to the next meets. We have a good start in the River States Conference standings with it only getting better as the season progresses."
OCU Track & Field's next meet is will be on January 23rd, when they return to compete in the Friday Night Spikes event at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
