For the second day in a row, the Oakland City University men's basketball team hosted the Hilltoppers of Ohio University-Chillicothe. Their first matchup finished the OCU hanging on to a 12 point win, 80-68. Today, the score spread finished the same way, as OCU turned a 33-29 halftime lead into a 77-65 victory, improving to 13-2 on the season.
Andrew Scott moved into 12th place on the all-time OCU scoring list, posting 33 points, on 9-15 shooting, including 5-7 from three point range, and a near perfect 10-11 from the foul line. Logan Worthington added 18 points and 10 rebounds, followed by 10 counters from Beau Hefner. Mitch Frederick notched six points, a game high 12 rebounds, and six assists. Freshman Nathaniel Schmittler added six points, five rebounds and a steal off the bench.
Four Hilltoppers reached double digits in scoring, led by Armani Towns, who scored 15 points and grabbed 10 missed shots. Anthony Dixon, Jr. scored 15 points as well, while handing out six assists. Erique Thurman and Mikel Pritchard each tallied 12 points, while Tyler McFarren chipped in with nine points in the loss.
As a team, OCU shot 25-55 (45.5%) from the field, including 7-19 (36.8%) from three point range. OU-Chillicothe connected on 25-63 (39.7%) of their shot attempts, going 10-32 (31.3%) from beyond the arc. The Mighty Oaks went 20-26 (76.9%) from the foul line, compared to just 5-8 (62.5%) for the visiting Hilltoppers.
For the game, each team hauled in 35 rebounds, as the Hilltoppers grabbed 10 offensive boards, compared to seven for the Oaks. OCU handed out 19 assists, five more than the visitors, while winning the turnover battle 12-10.
OCU will carry their 13-2 record into a Tuesday night matchup, at home in the Johnson Center, against Crowley's Ridge College. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
