Mighty Oaks' Hot Shooting Overpowers Flames of Welch College

The Mighty Oaks were on fire from long range in their 2018 Johnson Center debut, as they hosted the Flames of Welch College. After leading 60-49 at halftime, Oakland City University was able to continue to add to their lead, winning by the final tally of 108-85.
 

Addison Wagler led all scorers in the game with 26, while Logan Worthington compiled a double-double, scoring 23 points to go with a game high 10 rebounds. Andrew Scott notched 21 counters, followed by 19 from Andre Bearden. Joe Hinton rounded out the double-figure scorers, as all five OCU starters reached double-digits in the scoring column, posting 13 points to go with eight assists.
 

J.T. Jones paced the Flames, scoring 20 points, followed by a 14 point effort from Newman Ward. Chris Simon came off the bench to put up 12 counters, while Blake Stidham chipped in with 11, followed by 10 from Luke Charlton.

For the game, OCU shot 37-68 (54.4%) from the field, including a blistering 15-23 (65.2%) from beyond the arc, tying for the sixth most made three point baskets in a single game. The Flames connected on 33-64 (51.6%) of their shot attempts, going 10-24 (41.7%) from long range. Oakland City made 19-23 (82.6%) of their free throw shots, compared to 9-12 (75.0%) for Welch College.
 

The Mighty Oaks won the rebounding battle 36-29, including an 11-8 advantage on the offensive glass. OCU handed out 24 assists, compared to Welch's 15, while winning the turnover battle 13-8.
 

Oakland City will carry a record of 9-2 into their road matchup against Concordia Seminary, in St. Louis, Missouri, on Tuesday, January 9, tipping off at 7:00 pm.
