The Oakland City University men's basketball team improved to 8-1 on the year, heading into the Christmas break, downing the Mavericks of Ohio State University-Mansfield 78-57. It was the second day in a row the Oaks beat OSU-Mansfield, nearly by the same score, as yesterday the total was 76-57.
Addison Wagler went 10-15 from the field, and 6-6 from the foul line, scoring a game high 26 points, while hauling in nine rebounds. Logan Worthington followed close behind, notching 23 counters and nine boards. Andrew Scott managed 10 counters, while Michael Light came off the bench to add six, going 2-3 from the three point range.
Wyatt Clemens led the way for the visitors, scoring 16 points in the loss, shooting just 4-15 from the field, including 3-11 from three point range. Gavin Stigall added 11 points and hauled in seven rebounds, while Devon Keating came off the bench to compile six points, 11 boards, and three blocked shots in the contest.
For the game, OCU shot 28-62 (45.2%) from the field, including 3-15 (20.0%) from beyond the arc. OSU-M connected on 20-57 (35.1%) of their shot attempts, going 8-22 (36.4%) from three point range. The Oaks made 19-29 (65.5%) from the foul line, compared to 9-16 (56.3%) for the visiting Mavericks.
OCU held a 42-39 edge in rebounding, including a slim 12-11 advantage on the offensive glass. The Oaks won both the assist battle, 17-9, and the turnover contest, 18-5, while outscoring the Mavericks 44-14 in the paint, 19-4 in points off turnovers, 8-2 in second chance points, and 6-2 in fast break scores, in a game that featured three ties and one lead change.
The Mighty Oaks will be on break until December 30, when they travel to Huntsville, Alabama, to take on the Chargers of the University of Alabama-Huntsville, the only team to have beaten the Oaks so far this season. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
