The Oakland City University men's basketball team played host to the Eagles of Robert Morris University-Springfield, carrying a 13 game home winning streak in the Johnson Center, as well as seven straight overall. After leading 56-44 at the halftime break, OCU was able to pull away down the stretch, winning by the final score of 114-77.
Addison Wagler tossed home a game high 31 points, going 11-18 from the floor, including 2-3 from three point range, his first two made three point baskets of his career. Logan Worthington added 28 counters, followed by a 25 point effort from Andrew Scott. Mitch Frederick compiled his third double-double of the year, scoring 12 points and grabbing a game high 10 rebounds. Joe Hinton also tallied 12 counters, while joining Wagler with eight assists. Worthington and Scott each grabbed nine boards, while Wagler snatched eight, and Hinton nabbed seven.
Aaron Turner led the way for the Eagles, going 7-10 from the field, including 6-8 from three point range, to post 20 points. Jacarey Drake chipped in 19, on 6-11 shooting, followed by eight points from Tywon Buckley.
As a team, OCU won the rebound battle 50-24, including a 14-6 edge on the offensive glass. The Oaks handed out 28 assists, compared to 20 for the Eagles, while RMU-Springfield won the turnover battle 12-10.
For the game, the Mighty Oaks made 39-68 (57.4%) of their shot attempts, including 11-23 (47.8%) from beyond the arc. The Eagles made 28-69 (40.6%) of their field goal tries, scoring on 13-34 (38.2%) from long range. OCU made 25-30 (83.3%) from the foul line, compared to 8-10 (80.0%) for the visitors.
The Mighty Oaks will carry their 16-2 record to Springfield, Missouri, where they will take on Baptist Bible College. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 6.
