Oakland City Women’s Soccer to Host RSC Quarterfinals

Oakland City, IN – The number four seed Mighty Oaks will be hosting the University of Rio Grande (No. 5 seed) this Saturday, November 5 for the quarterfinals in the River States Conference Championships. With six team placing for the playoffs, beating Rio Grande will be the first step towards victory. The winner of the game between Oakland City and Rio Grande will play at Point Park University, who is the number one seed, to decide who moves on. This semifinal round in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania will be played on November 9.

The Red Storm of Rio Grande University are going to be a tough challenge for the Lady Oaks of coach Katie Harrison. In the regular season, Rio Grande beat Oakland City by a score of 2-1. Ever since joining the River States Conference, Oakland City has yet to beat Rio Grande in what have been three matchups so far.

The Mighty Oaks ended their regular season with an overall record of 9-4-2 and a conference record of 6-3-1. A good improvement from last year when the team went 9-11-1 overall and 4-5-1 in River States Conference Play.

The Mighty Oaks can use all support to battle their way to Pittsburgh to compete in the semifinals. After the semifinals, the two winners will play in the finals on November 12. The winner of the River State Conference Championship gets an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship. The national championship takes place in Orange Beach, Alabama between November 29 and December 5.
