Evansville, IN- Returning to the Conference Championship again for the 2nd time in as many years, the Mighty Oaks Women's Tennis Team finally claimed victory in this year River States Conference Championship.
In the Semifinal matchup, the Mighty Oaks took on the Cougars of IU Kokomo. After defeating them a couple weeks prior, the Lady Oaks knew what they were up against. After dropping the doubles point in the first match, the Lady Oaks took care of business winning at 1 doubles 6-4 and 3 doubles 6-1. After dominating in doubles, the Lady Oaks were set up well in singles. Claiming the 2nd point of the match was Sophomore
Isabela Todorovic winning her match 6-4, 6-0. Following that was wins by Aristizabal 6-2, 6-2 and
Tiana Sparks closing it out winning 6-1, 6-3. The Mighty Oaks Women's tennis team would advance to Saturdays final to face the Midway Eagles.
Coming into the finals on a 4-0 victory the day before, both the Eagles of Midway and the Mighty Oaks looked to take down their first Conference Championship. In doubles it was Midway who struck first winning at 1 doubles 6-1. The Mighty Oaks swept 2 and 3 doubles winning 6-3 at both, taking the early 1-0 lead. Quickly after that, junior
Kataryna Kulynych added the 2nd point winning 6-0, 6-1 followed by
Juliana Puente winning 6-3, 6-1. Needing 1 more point to claim the title, it came down to
Tiana Sparks and
Isabela Todorovic both sharing match points at the same time. Todorovic was able to secure the match first and won the Conference Championship for the Lady Oaks!
