The men's and women's tennis teams each had wins over IU East on Saturday afternoon at Glen Miller Park in Richmond, IN. The men's team won 7-0 and the women's team won 6-1. With the wins both teams finish the RSC regular season with perfect 5-0 records and lock up number one seeds in the conference tournament on April 26-27.
In the men's match the Mighty Oaks had a clean sweep of doubles with wins of 6-3 at number one, 6-0 at two and 6-0 at three to take the doubles point. In singles, Wilco Cilliers had the closest match of the day at the top spot securing a close 7-5, 4-6, 16-14 win over IU East's Sebastian Torrealba.
Tomas Ojeda got off to a strong start winning 6-0, 6-4 at number two and
George Tsioumas picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at number five.
Angel Gomez,
Louki Nivarlet and
Matias Rocha all won their matches 6-0, 6-0 without giving up a game to complete the 7-0 sweep.
On the women's side the Mighty Oaks rolled to a 6-1 victory. In a rematch of last year's number one doubles match,
Isabela Todorovic and
Mariana Espinosa were able to come out on top securing a 7-5 win over IUE.
Cristina Hurtado and
Liz Aristizabal won 6-3 at number two while
Maria Trembach and
Kataryna Kulynych won 6-2 at number three. In singles play IU East was able to take the top singles position to secure a point but no other spot gave up a set to secure the 6-1 victory.
The Mighty Oaks tennis programs have each claimed back-to-back regular season titles and are looking to take home their third straight men's championship and second straight on the women's side at this year's River States Conference tournament at Wesselman's Tennis Center in Evansville on April 26-27. Next up for the Mighty Oaks is Senior Day vs Missouri Baptist at 11am on Monday April 15th.
