As the spring semester begins, Coach Audrey Sparks is gearing up her athletes, to compete in the school's first indoor season, in program history. This comes after the distance athletes participated in a limited number of outdoor track meets, in the spring of 2021. It had been over 45 years since any athletes had represented OCU at a track meet.
The indoor season will consist of 2 regular season meets, the conference meet, and if an individual qualifies the NAIA indoor nationals.
The team will open this Saturday, January 29th at Taylor University, beginning at 8:30 am. The following week, on Friday, February 4th they will be heading to Logan Ohio and will again head back to Logan Ohio for the conference meet on Friday, February 18th.
Beginning with this outdoor season, OCU will have several dual sport athletes that are going to be joining the distance squad, for track meets and competing in different field and sprint events. Some of the events that will be covered this season include Javelin, Shot Put, Discus, High Jump, Long Jump, along with sprints from 60 to 600 meters indoor and 100 to 400 meters outdoor.
Coach Audrey Sparks said she was "extremely pleased" with the number of events that are going to be covered, especially with the program being so new and that she expects them to be individually competitive at the conference meets.
