The Mighty Oaks Cross Country team competed at the Stagemoller Twilight this past Friday, hosted by the University of Southern Indiana.
The Women raced 4-kilometers and had some very strong performances. They were led by
Melissa de Jong, who finished in 15:30 and crossed the line in 21st place out of 37. Closing out the group was freshman
Heidi Breidenbaugh in 17:54 (33rd),
Niewa Brown in 21:42 (35th),
Berlyn Ingle in 21:44 (36th), and
Elizabeth Martinez in 21:47 (37th).
The Men raced the 6-kilometer distance under the lights. Junior
Pierce Lashley had a breakthrough performance, finishing in 19:58 and crossing the line in 42nd out of the field of 63. This was a 3-minute personal best from his 6-kilometer mark that he set last season. The other three Mighty Oaks to compete were
Emerick Randolph in 20:20 (47th),
Eli Mayes in 20:50 (52nd), and
Landon Marshall in 23:58 (63rd).
"I was very impressed with how both groups handled their respective races. Melissa and Heidi had some impressive performances to start the season. The men all set personal bests. I'm excited to see them continue to improve throughout the coming weeks," Coach Guillozet mentioned.
The Mighty Oaks Cross Country team returns to action on September 19th at the Midway University XC Classic.
