The Mighty Oaks had an impressive showing at the Midway University XC Invitational.
On the Women's side,
Melissa de Jong led her way to a first place overall finish out of the field of 46 in a time of 25:25 for the 6,000-meter run. Freshman
Heidi Breidenbaugh snuck into the top 20 in a time of 28:30. They were both given t-shirts as awards and were recognized on stage at the post-meet award ceremony.
Niewa Brown ran her best 6,000-meter time of her career in a time of 35:43, finishing in 33rd place.
The men followed suit with a great team performance. The top three Mighty Oaks finished in the top 20, all being recognized at the post-meet award ceremony as well.
Pierce Lashley ran an 8,000-meter personal best time of 27:39, finishing in 6th.
Emerick Randolph wasn't far behind in his time of 28:02, finishing in 9th.
Logan Smith ran a time of 29:08, finishing 19th.
Landon Marshall rounded out the group in a time of 34:27, finishing in 47th.
"This was a breakthrough race for the program," mentioned Coach Guillozet. "
Melissa de Jong was the first Mighty Oak to secure a victory in my time as Head Coach here at Oakland City. I'm excited for the group to continue this momentum into the rest of the season."
Mighty Oaks Cross Country will compete next at the Louisville Classic on October 4th at Tom Sawyer park.
