Murray, KY - In weather that OCU Track & Field Head Coach
Audrey Sparks described as "absolutely miserable", the men's and women's teams took on the Bill Smith Invitational, hosted by Murray State University.
Raegan Heldt came up just short of reaching the NCCAA National Meet qualifying time in the 800m, but finished in second place, finishing with a time of 2:28.99. Evie Hasenour placed seventh in the same event with a time of 2:51.13.
Heldt also scored for the Oaks by finishing in second place in the 400m event, finishing in 1:07.29, while
Chloe O'Neal placed sixth, two spots ahead of teammate
Pamela Barbosa. O'Neal finished in 1:21.10, while Barbosa crossed the line in 1:22.11. Hasenour placed fourth in the 1500m event, running in 5:33.11, while the 4x400m relay team, made up of Madison Nicolas, Evie Hasenour,
Halley Powers, and Heldt, placed second with a time of 4:49.91.
Nicolas came in seventh in the 200m, finishing in 30.47, while placing eighth in the 100m with a time of 13.99.
On the men's side, Mason Britt placed third in the high jump, clearing 1.75m, while
Justin DeFur made it over at 1.70 to finish fourth. Britt also finished third in the long jump, at 6.17m, while Adam Billingsly was sixth in the discus with a throw of 22.07m.
On the track, the 4x100m relay team of
Cooper Clark, Keiby Jeune, Britt, and Pascal Froeschl placed fifth with a time of 49.58, while
Ronald Kiprono finished seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:16.51.
"Despite the poor weather conditions, everyone who competed ran decent times," stated Sparks. "Raegan came up just short of qualifying for the NCCAA National Meet in the 800. If we have better weather in our upcoming events, I have no doubt she will qualify."
The Oaks will next compete at the Brescia University Twilight Invitational on April 14.
