Charles Trafton earned two letters in baseball and one in golf during his time as a student at Oakland City College, graduating in 1967.
Following his graduation from OCC, he was a high school teacher and coach for seven years. He earned his Master's degree from the University of Evansville in 1974, and returned to OCC that fall as a member of the physical education faculty and head basketball coach.
During his nine years as coach of the Mighty Oaks basketball program, his teams recorded a National Little College Athletic Association (now the USCAA) National Championship title and two second place finishes. OCC’s basketball teams made five appearances in national competition under his leadership. His teams compiled a 117-132 record.
After leaving OCC in 1983, he became District Manager for Franklin Life Insurance where his sales earned him many honors. Later, he returned to teaching and coaching. He was head coach at Tecumseh High School and at Boonville High School through the spring of 1999. He retired from coaching and teaching, but retained his love for the game.
Coach Trafton passed away in 2012.
